In Loving Memory of Rosita Marie Bye Dufrene
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rosita B Dufrene, who departed this life on September 14, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on September 20, 1938 on Golden Ranch Plantation in Gheens, Louisiana, to John W and Julia A Bye, Rosita was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and endless generosity. She was a proud graduate of Holy Savior Catholic School, where she would later return to dedicate over 30 years of her life as a nursery teacher and school secretary. Her nurturing spirit and gentle guidance left a lasting impression on generations of students and families. Her unwavering commitment to the Holy Savior community was a testament to her love for children and education.
A gifted quilter, Rosita found joy and solace in her craft. Her handmade quilts, sewn with care and love, warmed the hearts and homes of family, friends, and anyone fortunate enough to receive one. Each stitch told a story—of family gatherings, quiet evenings, and the simple beauty she found in everyday life.
But above all else, Rosita cherished her family. She was a devoted mother and a proud, doting grandmother. Her home was a haven of love, laughter, and warm meals. A tireless nurturer and selfless soul, Rosita always put others before herself. Her hands were never still—whether preparing a favorite meal, quilting her gazillionth blanket, offering comfort in difficult times, or simply holding yours when you needed it most. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the traditions she upheld, and the love she gave so freely.
Rosita is survived by her sons; Danny Dufrene (Rachel) and John Dufrene (Desiree'); daughter Staci Dufrene (Matt); grandchildren, Blaine Dufrene, Courteney Dufrene, and Maverick Dufrene; her daughter-in-law Rachel Dufrene (Bryan, deceased). She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Howard Dufrene; and her sons, Scott Dufrene, and Bryan Dufrene; her brother Johnny Willis Bye, and her sister Angeline Rogers.
Her gentle hands may be at rest, but her love, her compassion, and her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she may be gone from our sight, her love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. We will miss her more than words can express, but we take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
Visitation will be held at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on September 19, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."
