Peggy Doucet Duet, age 81, died peacefully on September 30, 2025.
Peggy was a proud native of Golden Meadow and a 1961 graduate of Golden Meadow High School where she played French horn and was elected Band Queen during her senior year.
For decades, Peggy worked as a school secretary at Golden Meadow Junior High and Golden Meadow Upper Elementary. Every student, parent, faculty and staff member knew Ms. Peggy’s friendly smile, quick wit, and compassion.
Upon retirement from the school system, Peggy dedicated herself to community service, leading the Our Lady of Prompt Succor decorating committee for 40 years and establishing the Golden Meadow Historical Center. She enjoyed traveling across the country and around the world with her PLEDGE Girls, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and cooking delicious meals to enjoy with friends and family.
Peggy was also a talented and prolific artist whose paintings captured the beauty and whimsy of bayou life and are now part of many homes across the south Lafourche area.
Peggy is survived by her husband, John; her three children, Kent (Melanie), Angela Long (Darryl), and Jill Arabie (Garrett); four grandchildren, Ryan Long, Michael Long, Madelin Arabie, and Claire Arabie; her goddaughter, Becky Cheramie (Jason); honorary grandchildren, Patrick (Alexandra) and Mary Cheramie; and her sister, Audrey Plaisance (Calvin).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Etienne and Pomella Doucet; her brothers Herman, Leroy, and Linton Doucet; her sisters Mary Lou Jambon and Lois Cheramie; and her godson, Jason Paul Cheramie.
The family extends its deep gratitude to the many friends and family members who supported them throughout Peggy’s life and her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, especially Calvin and Norma Duet, Barbara Plaisance, Ginny Miller, Josie Robichaux, Harold and Louise Adams, the late Evelyn Anselmi, Odile Williams, Sue Bruce, Tracy Doucet, and the ACG Hospice care team.
