Monell Griffin Autin passed away peacefully at her home on March 25, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 20, 1956, Monell was raised in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, where she developed the strong Cajun values that shaped her life - faith, family, kindness, and caring for others.
Monell found joy in both the simple and meaningful moments of life. She took great pride in keeping a clean and welcoming home, seeing it as one of the many ways she cared for those she loved. She cherished time with family and friends, making memories filled with laughter, peaceful moments on the patio, and visits to the hunting camp.
She was a devoted mother to her two children, Tanya Danos (Ryan) and Hannah Tranchina (Tony), who were the greatest blessings of her first marriage to the late David Vizier. She was a proud and loving “MiMi” to her grandchildren, John-Ryan and Reece Danos, and Grace, Graham, Ava, and Claire Tranchina. She also shared a special bond with her beloved sister, Carol Jean Danos.
Monell was happily married to her husband, Roy “Magoo” Autin, for 25 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on their Catholic faith, family, good food, and plenty of laughter. Through their marriage, Monell was blessed with stepdaughter Marci Bankston (Steven), stepson Zeke Autin, and daughter-in-law Becky Autin, who was also her dear friend. She was also embraced by Roy’s extended family, who welcomed her with open arms and loved her dearly.
In her final years, Monell faced Alzheimer’s disease with courage and grace. Even as her memory faded, the love she held for her family remained steady and clear.
Above all, Monell will be remembered for her deep faith, her loving and giving heart, and the remarkable patience that defined her life. She had a gentle spirit that made others feel cared for, comforted, and never alone. Many who knew her would say she was one of the most patient people in the world, meeting life’s joys and hardships with quiet strength, grace, and a calm presence that brought peace to those around her.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, in Larose, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 9 am until service time. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped care for Monell, especially the staff at Thibodaux Regional Neurology, especially Dr. Huq, HOPE Hospice, and the beautiful angels who lovingly cared for her during the final months of her life, especially Catherine Guidry, Darla Rousse Toups, and Bethany Lee.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor their loved one’s memory with a donation to Bayou Region Alzheimer’s Services. Donations may be mailed to 169 Ontario Street, Houma, LA 70364.
Samart- Mothe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Autin family.
