Maxie was preceded in death by his loving wife; Debbie Drummond Adams; and His Parents; O. B. Adams and Virginia Baker Adams.
Maxie was a lifelong employee of Grand Isle Shipyard. He was employed there for almost 50 years because GIS was more than just a job to him. It was a place that provided security for his family and it was a place where all of his friends, who were like family to him, were at. These are the words of his GIS Family “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Maxie Adams, GIS’s longest tenured active employee. Maxie was one of the original TEN (10) GIS employees and for 49 years had worked in the yards as a heavy equipment operator, materials specialist, foreman, driver, and more. He would have seen his 50th anniversary with GIS in August had the Lord not called him home this weekend. Maxie will be missed by all.
Gary Bradberry remembered Maxie by saying, “Maxie was not only an employee, he was family. He will be greatly missed by us all. We will miss seeing him walking through the yard and picking on everyone in his path to get them fired up and walk away with a big smile. Maxie would always tell the guys that worked in his department, 'Gary’s not too happy with you about what happened' and they would walk in my office asking what they did. He would be outside laughing and telling everyone what he just done. Maxie was a great asset to GIS and we will never forget him for all he did for us all.” Mark Pregeant, Jr. remembered Maxie by saying, “Maxie was one of a kind. The most hard working, caring, and dedicated individual that we had at the company. He was always brightening someone’s day. In the last (10) years for every holiday, the first text in the morning was from Maxie in a group with a lot of the legacy guys wishing everyone well and a blessed day. Maxie was family to all of us here. And while he loved being here with us, he was happiest being around all of his children and grandchildren. He would glow when he was talking about their life, accomplishments, etc. A few words can’t begin to tell the story of Maxie’s impact on our family and company over the last 49 years. He is sorely missed by us all.”
Outside of work, Maxie was a loving family man who was always there for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was kind hearted and he dedicated his life to being there for his loved ones. He was a great father that always provided guidance to his children, and he always had a helping hand out. No matter what, you knew you could count on him. His grandchildren were the light in his eyes and he loved spending time with them. He was a great grandfather! Maxie is deeply appreciated for all he did for others and will never be forgotten, but his time has come to join his loving wife in heaven. Since her departure, he has missed her dearly, and a piece of him had already left when she did. It is time for them to be together again and enjoy eternal happiness. This is goodbye for now and until we see you again you will be missed but never forgotten.
