Douglas Wayne Hager

Douglas Wayne Hager, 81, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 16, 1944, in Michigan, Wayne was the beloved son of Ruby and Wilson Hager. He grew up with a strong sense of family, hard work, and love for the outdoors, values that remained with him throughout his life.

Wayne was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his service, he demonstrated extraordinary courage and bravery in combat and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor and the Purple Heart. These distinguished honors stand as a lasting testament to his courage, sacrifice, and devotion to his country. Like so many aspects of his life, Wayne carried his military service with humility and quiet strength.

Wayne was truly a jack of all trades and a skilled tradesman who took great pride in working with his hands. Throughout his life, he worked as a commercial fisherman and welder, and his many talents also included construction, carpentry, and mechanical work. There was little he could not build, repair, or figure out. Perhaps the greatest testament to his craftsmanship was the home he built with his own hands, the home where he and Leona built their life together and where he remained until his final days.

He was the devoted husband of Leona Hager for 59 years and a loving father to Ricky (Stacey) and Dennis (Yolanda). Nothing brought Wayne greater joy than spending time with his family.

He was a proud grandfather to Brandon, Timothy, Caleb, Brittney, and Bridget, and a cherished great-grandfather to Tatum Claire, Camila Mae, and Luca Franklin. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Pam, Joyce, and Anita, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Wilson Hager, as well as two brothers and two sisters.

Wayne found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Whether he was hunting, fishing, tending to his yard and property, or sharing time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he approached each day with quiet contentment and appreciation. His love for the outdoors and the memories he created with those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Wayne will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his courageous service to his country, his strong work ethic, and his gentle spirit. His legacy of love, strength, courage, and devotion will continue through the generations he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Falgout Funeral Home, in Galliano, from 9:30 am until service time at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Larose. Military honors will be held at 10:00 am.
