Joanne 'Mommie Jo' Bellanger

Joanne ‘Mommie Jo’ Pierce Bellanger, 81 a native and resident of Cut Off, La. passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 with her loving family near her side.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10:00am until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with burial to follow at Cheramie Cemetery.
‘Mommie Jo’ is survived by her husband of 65 years Clinton Bellanger, Jr.; children; Velvet Bellanger Guidry (Brent), Clint Bellanger (Karen Moore), grandchildren; Jennifer & Duroc Schexnaydre, Seth Guidry, Kadie & Nicky Joe Dufrene, Carlie & Ryan Bagala, Nickless Lasseigne, Jude & Marissa Lasseigne. Louise & Nicholas Galliano, great-grandchildren; Madison & Emmalyn Schexnaydre, Ryder & Sydnie Dufrene, Lanie & Lucie Lasseigne, Hunter Lasseigne, Molly & Noah Galliano, Lillie & Reed Bagala, brother; Wayne & Paula Pierce, sister; Beverly & Malco Guidry.
‘Mommie Jo’ was preceded in death by her parents; Paul Pierce and Effie Gisclair Pierce, daughter; Molly Bellanger Adams and husband Russell Adams, In-laws; Clinton, Sr. and Louise Duet Bellanger.
JoAnne, affectionately known to most as ‘Mommie Jo’, was a selfless and
caring woman who adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic who attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and loved to sing at mass as it made her feel close to her late father. When her husband was injured and unable to work, she opened Mommie Jo’s restaurant in Cut Off, which quickly became a local institution, at the age of 50 and worked there tirelessly until she retired 17 years later. She was an exceptional cook who understood the value of sitting around the table to enjoy a good meal and loved talking to and sharing her love for Cajun cooking with her customers that visited from around the world. ‘Mommie Jo’ will be missed but never forgotten.
